Safety Harbor, Florida -- Investigators have charged a man in connection with a hit and run crash involving seven vehicles back in June.
The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office says on the night of June 1, a deputy on patrol saw a white BMW traveling on Curlew Road make an illegal U-turn. The deputy tried to pull the car over, but the BMW fled.
The deputy decided not to pursue the car and a short time later reports came in the driver had run at least two red lights before causing a seven vehicle crash at the intersection of McMullen Booth and Enterprise roads. The driver fled on foot and was not caught that night.
Several people were injured in the crash, but none seriously. Many of the cars were heavily damaged.
During the investigation, DNA samples were taken from the inside the BMW and submitted into evidence. The results came up with a hit, verifying what detectives already suspected -- that 23-year-old Saeed Williams was behind the wheel that night.
Williams, already in jail on unrelated drug charges, will now have three more charges of Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Injuries, Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding and Reckless Driving Resulting in Injury added to his record.
