Oldsmar, Florida -- One of the amendments on the Florida ballot is getting a vocal "No" vote from Oldsmar City Council.
Amendment 4 aims to reform parts of the state's property tax system, and would impact groups like first-time home buyers and commercial property. It was put on the ballot by the Legislature, and City Council members approved a resolution opposing its passage, calling it a measure that could further contribute to "the unequal treatment of Florida's taxpayers."
"Amendment 4 shifts the tax burden to new or growing businesses, creating a competitive disadvantage for new businesses who would have to pay higher property taxes than their more established counterparts," part of the resolution reads.
The Florida League of Cities has also released literature opposing the amendment.
