100+ animals seized from home up for adoption | News

Largo, Florida -- More than 100 animals seized from an Oldsmar home earlier this month will be up for adoption at SPCA Tampa Bay in Largo starting, beginning at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Deputies discovered nearly 300 hamsters, hedgehogs, gerbils, rabbits, rats, snakes, geckoes, birds and dogs in the home of 26-year-old Jennifer Kovacs and 28-year-old Jeffrey O'Neil while responding to a missing child call.

It turned out the child was in the care of a relative.

Deputies say the animals were being kept in deplorable conditions, living in their own filth.

The SPCA estimates it's cost them about $3,000 a day to care for the animals that doubled their population in one day.

The couple was arrested on animal cruelty and child abuse charges. They turned over custody of the animals, allowing for the adoption of those in good health.

SPCA's hours are:

Tuesday-Friday: 1pm-7pm

Saturday: 10am-6pm

Sunday: 1pm-5pm

SPCA says additional animals as part of this seizure will be available for adoption later in the week and in the coming weeks. These include dogs, rabbits, puppies and birds.
